Confirmation / Mentoring Relationships:
Confirmation meets on Wednesday evenings throughout school year for Middle and High School youth in grades 6 - 9. Our Wednesday meetings are either a "Theme Night" (twice a month) or "Small Group Fellowship and Service" (once a month).
On Theme Nights, the students gather for the presentation of lessons about The Old Testament and Ten Commandments.
Theme Night begins with Large Group Opening and Presentation of the Theme for the Day. The opening and presentation includes music, quiz shows, personal faith stories, skits, Bible study, and prayer.
Following the large group meeting, the students break into Small Groups of 4-5 students for a half hour to discuss the theme for the day, share highs and lows, pray for one another, and receive a blessing. The students then regroup in the large group for announcements and closing prayer.
A Small Group Fellowship and Service event might entail the students gathering in their designated small group along with their small group guide and parents and going bowling, a trip to an outdoor maze, or some other fun activity. The service event might include doing yardwork for an elderly neighbor, collecting food for the Food Pantry, or assembling hygiene packs for the Mobile Food Pantry.
Each student will be asked to do 12 hours of service during the course of the confirmation year. Half of that will be done with the small group; the other half will need to be done individually or with families, and might include helping out with the SOJ nursery, hanging door invitations, serving congregational meals or participating in some kind of community outreach.
Worship is at the heart of congregational life and our confirmation program too! It’s vital that we worship together as well as learn, serve, and play together.
Small groups of students will be asked to serve together in worship as communion assistants, readers, musicians, prayer writers, and in other roles according to their gifts and interests.
Our Annual Fall Confirmation Retreat at Shetek Bible Camp in Slayton, MN will take the students away from home for one overnight (Fri-Sat) stay in October; however the possibility does exist for other overnight adventure trips to occur during the year.
