Ministry Title
Spiritual Growth Team Leader

Position Purpose
In the church, Spiritual Growth encompasses the goal of maturing in the Christian faith through the practice of spiritual disciplines, growing in personal knowledge and understanding of God and his Word, increasingly living out that knowledge by applying its meaning to daily life, and desiring to build these qualities into the lives of others. The Spiritual Growth Team Leader oversees the Christian Education program of the church through the teaching of God’s word and the development of an understanding of the Christian faith and application to the daily lives of our partner families. The Spiritual Growth Team Leader is also responsible for presenting an accurate report to the Leadership Team of all Spiritual Growth activities and needs.

Ministry Description

  1. Plan and implement opportunities for deepening and strengthening the spiritual life of the congregation.
  2. Research the spiritual needs and gifts of adults in the church.
  3. Develop long-term plans for Bible study and spiritual formation among the partners of the congregation.
  4. Recruit Sunday school teachers, Adult Forum leaders, Bible study teachers, LIFE Group hosts, and other volunteers to help with the congregation’s spiritual growth programs and ministries.
  5. Provide training for teachers and leaders in the Spiritual Growth ministry.
  6. Program special events, seminars, and workshops that enhance the spiritual growth of congregation partners.
  7. Arrange for speakers and facilitate discussions on topics such as Bible study, prayer, using spiritual gifts, interpersonal relationships, and spiritual disciplines.
  8. Provide fellowship opportunities and events that nurture the spiritual life of the congregation.
  9. Coordinate new members’ classes to emphasize the importance of spiritual growth.
  10. Encourage outreach and service projects among individuals and various groups in the church as part of an overall Spiritual Growth program.
  11. Research outside classes, workshops, seminars, and events on Spiritual Growth for various groups within the church (men, women, youth, young adults, singles, couples, senior adults, etc.) and facilitate registration and attendance at these events.

Time requirements
The time commitment is approximately 15-20 hours per month.

Term
The Spiritual Growth Team Leader will serve for at least two years. The first year will be spent serving as an assistant alongside the preceding Spiritual Growth Team Leader, learning the various Spiritual Growth activities, and gaining ideas and visions for where God is leading the Spiritual Growth Team. The second year will be spent serving as the Spiritual Growth Team Leader, fulfilling the responsibilities and duties listed, recruiting and training volunteers to assist and carry out Spiritual Growth opportunities. The Spiritual Growth Team Leader should also recruit an assistant for succession. The Spiritual Growth Team Leader may be invited to serve for additional one-year terms thereafter.

Training/Resources
On-the-job training occurs naturally as the Spiritual Growth Team Leader discovers the spiritual needs of the congregation; attendance at workshops and seminars focused on Spiritual Growth ministry; purchases and utilizes books, audio, video, and other resources on Spiritual Growth.

  4. Interpersonal skills.
  5. Ability to delegate and release other leaders and volunteers to share in the work of discipleship ministry.
  6. Ability to listen and discover the spiritual needs of members of the church.
  7. Spiritual Gifts: encouragement, evangelism, mercy, teaching.
