Ministry Title
Ministry Resources Team Leader

Position purpose
The appearance of the church building and grounds make an important first impression for visitors to the church. The congregation has a stewardship responsibility to maintain and improve the facilities God has provided for our study and worship. The Ministry Resources Team Leader provides a wide variety of skills to keep the church facilities in excellent condition, including hands-on maintenance; work delegation; supervision and management of maintenance and custodial crews; management of construction projects; and maintaining the financial strength of the congregation. The Ministry Resources Team Leader oversees, maintains, and cares for all real property of the church and church resources. The Ministry Resources Team Leader is also responsible for presenting an accurate report to the Leadership Team of all Ministry Resources activities and needs.

Ministry Description

  1. Develop and maintain the financial and physical resources of the congregation.
  2. Promote stewardship of time, talent, and financial resources.
  3. Identifies and encourages use of talents and gifts.
  4. Maintain the building and its systems in a good working manner.
  5. Maintain the lawns and landscaping of the church facility.
  6. Work with and keep staff informed of maintenance problems and issues.
  7. Maintain, repair, and recommend upgrades to the following mechanical systems:
  8. Heating and air conditioning.
  9. Plumbing.
  10. Electrical system and lighting.
  11. Break-in alarm system.
  12. Fire alarm and sprinkler systems.
  13. Oversee minor interior repairs on doors, office and kitchen shelving and cabinets, windows, moldings, trim, and do touch-up painting.
  14. Oversee minor exterior repairs and maintenance on doors, windows, and painting.
  15. Oversee regular lawn-mowing, trimming, weeding, fertilizing, tree and shrub pruning, repair and reseeding of damaged lawn areas, picking up of debris in parking lot and other exterior areas.
  16. Help organize work parties to perform spring and fall cleanings and maintenance not performed by outside companies or janitorial services.
  17. Purchase needed supplies and equipment within established budgets.
  18. Develop an annual maintenance budget.
  19. Maintain a directory of outside maintenance services for major repairs and maintenance, and develop a process for using these services.
  20. Purchase basic tools and equipment for routine maintenance and repairs.

Time requirements
The time commitment is approximately 15-20 hours per month.

Term
The Ministry Resources Team Leader will serve for at least two years. The first year will be spent serving as an assistant alongside the preceding Ministry Resources Team Leader, learning the various Ministry Resources activities, and gaining ideas and visions for where God is leading the Ministry Resources Team. The second year will be spent serving as the Ministry Resources Team Leader, fulfilling the responsibilities and duties listed, recruiting and training volunteers to assist and carry out Ministry Resources opportunities. The Ministry Resources Team Leader should also recruit an assistant for succession. The Ministry Resources Team Leader may be invited to serve for additional one-year terms thereafter.

Training/Resources

  1. Research energy-saving projects and more efficient ways to accomplish maintenance and custodial needs of the church facility.
  2. Attend workshops and seminars on project management.
  3. Purchase appropriate resources—such as how-to books and professional/trade magazine subscriptions—to keep abreast of maintenance techniques and products.
