Ministry Title
Treasurer

Position Purpose
The Treasurer keeps accurate and detailed records, and reviews and monitors day-to-day financial activities. The Treasurer also acts as the primary fiscal agent of the congregation by accounting for the receipts and distributions of funds in accordance with the approved budget and as directed by the Leadership Team and/or congregation.

Ministry Description

  1. Responsible for accurate recording of receipts and disbursements along with budgeted and actual expenditures according to proper accounting procedures.
  2. Provide guidance and oversee the preparation of the budget.
  3. Review each bank deposit slip with the count sheets and deposit summary.
  4. Review check request forms and sign checks for disbursements at least once a week.
  5. Make sure all check requests are authorized and charged to the appropriate budget line item.
  6. Review bank statement reconciliations for each bank account, paying particular attention to the appropriateness of reconciling items: outstanding checks, deposits in transit, or other items.
  7. Attend monthly Finance Team meetings and Leadership Team meetings, presenting current financial information.
  8. Inform bookkeeper of any motions passed by the Leadership Team which involve church funds.
  9. Present a written and oral report at the annual Congregational Meeting.

Time requirements
Leadership Team meets once a month. Annual Congregational meeting is held in November. The Leadership Team holds a one-day retreat once or twice a year. The time commitment is approximately 15-20 hours per month.

Term
The Treasurer shall serve for 2 years.

Training/Resources
The Treasurer will be trained by the Leadership Team or out-going treasurer.

  1. Accounting and bookkeeping skills.
  2. Good stewardship principles followed in private life.
  3. Church member in good standing.
  4. Ability to keep personal financial information in the strictest confidence.
  5. Good communication skills.
  6. Spiritual Gifts: administration, faith, knowledge, writing.
